  • Investigation into asbestos in mulch

    We are currently investigating the discovery of asbestos in mulch at multiple locations, with the support of the NSW Asbestos Taskforce. Read more

  • Cadia Gold Mine

    We are working to ensure that Cadia Valley Operations is operating the mine in a way that proactively minimises impacts from their operations to safeguard the community and the environment. Read more

  • Nambucca Valley sewage overflows

    The EPA has imposed a Pollution Reduction Program (PRP) on Environment Protection Licence 579 – Macksville Sewage Treatment Plant that requires Nambucca Valley Council to assess and repair the sewage reticulation system to prevent overflows. Read more

  • Flat Rock Creek fish kill

    The EPA, with DPE scientists, has been sampling and monitoring Flat Rock Creek to better understand the impacts of a recent pollution incident which caused a fish kill. Read more

  • Sydney Olympic Park: Cleanaway odour and noise

    We are responding to community complaints about odour and noise from Cleanaway’s liquid treatment plant and resource recovery facility in Sydney Olympic Park. We are monitoring activities and requiring Cleanaway to take action. Read more

  • Wickham: Ampol Newcastle fuel terminal

    24/11/22 The Ampol Newcastle Fuel Terminal in Wickham has been declared an area of Significant Contaminated Land. Read more

  • Camp Gully Creek pollution investigation

    We are investigating the alleged pollution of Camp Gully Creek from Metropolitan Collieries mine site in Helensburgh. Metropolitan Collieries has started the clean-up of the creek after we issued a Clean-up Notice on Friday, 16 September requiring clean-up.

  • Mannering Park, Lake Macquarie, fish kill

    12/10/22  A smart buoy that uses advanced technology to help track water quality has been deployed near Wyee Point following fish kills in August and September.
    Initial water results from the August fish kill indicate metals were unlikely to be the cause of the fish deaths, with only low levels detected. Read more

  • Parramatta River fish kills

    Data was collected from installed monitors from February 7–9 in the Paramatta River and from February to middle of July 2022 in Haslams Creek. Information collected from the monitors demonstrates the links between dissolved oxygen and the recent fish kills. Read more

  • Minchinbury odour investigation

    Due to ongoing odours, on 30 March 2022 we issued Bingo a legally binding Prevention Notice. We require daily updates from Bingo, and a comprehensive report in early April. Weekly updates on the results must be made on the Bingo website. Odour detection monitors have been installed around Eastern Creek and Minchinbury, and we regularly report the readings from these monitors. Read more

  • Coffs Harbour odour investigation
    In late June 2022 we installed monitors to detect hydrogen sulfide gas (rotten egg gas) around the Englands Road Waste Management Facility. Information from the monitors, along with odour surveys by our officers and odour reports from the community, help us to check that the requirements relating to potentially odorous activities, such as the Coffs Harbour Landfill facility, are working.  Read more

  • Tarago odour  investigation 
    Monitoring results are available for September 2021 to November 2021. Read  more
  • Waverton and Wollstonecraft rail noise
    We issued Sydney Trains with a $15,000 Penalty Notice for failure to maintain railway track on Sydney’s North Shore Line. Read  more
  • Kembla Grange odour investigation 
    We are monitoring the ongoing environmental performance of regulated facilities in the Farmborough Heights and Kembla Grange areas to ensure premises have controls and practices in place to prevent emissions of offensive odours. Read  more
  • Captains Flat
    Results of testing show that some samples had elevated concentrations of lead, while other contaminants were below the health investigation level for the relevant land-use. Read more
  • Truegain, former waste processing facility at Rutherford
    Remediation of a former waste oil facility in the Maitland suburb of Rutherford is set to begin, with the land now in the hands of the NSW Government.  Read more
