Lake Macquarie lead information session this Tuesday

Media release: 29 January 2016

The Lake Macquarie Lead Community Reference Group is hosting a community information night on Tuesday, 2 February 2016.

The aim of the meeting is to provide local residents with an update on the work underway to manage lead contamination in suburbs surrounding the former Pasminco lead smelter including Boolaroo, Argenton and Speers Point.

Representatives from the Lead Expert Working Group, Lake Macquarie City Council, the EPA and Hunter New England Health will be at the meeting.

Items to be discussed include:

  •   Progress update on the Lead Expert Working Group’s report to the NSW Government
  • Update on investigation of soil disposal options
  • Blood test results

The Community Reference Group was established last year to give the community an opportunity to engage directly with government and experts on issues related to potential lead and lead slag contamination.

The Community Reference Group is working in partnership with the experts on the Lead Expert Working Group to draft a report to the State Government which will make recommendations on the actions, if any, that are required to manage and protect the community from the impacts of contamination into the future.
