The NSW Government is committed to effective, transparent and efficient regulation of the gas industry.

To facilitate this, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has been developed between the various NSW Government agencies involved, including the NSW Environment Protection Authority, the Department of Industry (Division of Resources and Energy and Resource Regulator) the Department of Planning and Environment and the Department of Primary Industries - Water.

The MOU clearly defines the responsibilities of the key agencies involved in the regulation of gas activities in NSW. It establishes systems and processes for performing their roles effectively and seamlessly.

The MOU also includes provisions that will help the community understand and navigate the gas industry regulatory framework, and will hold government agencies and industry accountable for outcomes.

See Memorandum of Understanding on the regulation of gas activities in NSW (PDF 5.4MB).

In 2013, the EPA lead a review of the integrity of all produced water storage ponds in New South Wales. The EPA has completed this review and created a summary document (PDF 231KB).
