The NSW Environment Protection Authority’s (EPA’s) work to prevent littering is underpinned by research on the problem and the solutions.

The following litter prevention kits summarise research about littering, the behaviour behind it, and how best to tackle it.

Lessons from the Litter-ature

The Lessons from the Litter-ature (PDF 2.2MB) report reviews academic publications, market research, litter education campaign analysis and other sources to summarise the learnings about litter. The report covers publications between 2000 and 2007.

NSW litter reports

Under the Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997 (POEO Act) section 146D, the EPA is required to report on the composition and quantity of litter types in sites that represent significant littering activity, once every two years:
