Newcastle 500 Supercars Event
The Newcastle 500 supercars event will take place on March 10-12, 2023. There will be preparatory track works and post-race track works associated with the event.
The event is managed under the Motor Sports Events Act 2022, which aims to support motor sports and facilitate major motor sports events in NSW.
The government coordinating agency for the motor race is the Office of Sport. The Minister for Sport (and Office of Sport) is the approval body for the event.
The Motor Sports Events Act 2022 “switches off” the provisions of the Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997 relating to noise for the authorised event. This means that neither the City of Newcastle nor the EPA have any regulatory power in relation to offensive noise.
Supercars Australia has appointed a community relations team, including a staff member based in Newcastle, to address enquiries from local residents and businesses.
