Open government in action during Right to Know Week
The NSW EPA has joined with the Information and Privacy Commission of NSW as an official Champion during Right to Know Week 2016 (26 September – 2 October 2016). It is the right of every individual in NSW to access government held information as set out by the Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009.
All NSW citizens have a legal enforceable right to access most information held by NSW government and agencies.
The Information Commissioner and NSW Open Data Advocate, Elizabeth Tydd encourages Government agencies to embrace this year's themes of "Open Government in action" and "You have a right to know" by maintaining accurate records, proactively releasing information and inviting and managing community consultation on projects.
Most information that is publicly available from the EPA can be found on the EPA website, much of it in public registers, and specific requests to obtain information can be also be made. The NSW EPA is proud to promote its commitment to open access to information for the people of NSW as an official champion for Right to Know Week 2016.
