Return and Earn

The NSW Government's Container Deposit Scheme, Return and Earn, will roll out across the state from 1 December 2017. It is the largest litter reduction initiative in NSW and everyone will have a role to play.

Return and Earn will have over 500 collection points across the state, including more than 800 reverse vending machines (RVMs). More than half the collection points will be automated, and contain 2 or 4 RVMs. Collection points may also be local shops, depot sites, existing recycling centres, or a combination of all, where anybody can return an eligible drink container for a 10-cent refund.

Return and Earn will be:

  • administered by a Scheme Coordinator, Exchange for Change, and a Network Operator, TOMRA-Cleanaway, which will set up the collection points
  •  regulated by the NSW EPA. .

More information is available at Return and Earn which includes detailed information for beverage suppliers about their responsibilities under the scheme.
