School is in for Return and Earn learning resources
Did you know half of schools surveyed by the Australian Association for Environmental Education (AAEE) NSW have participated in Return and Earn? It’s not surprising then that the program’s new learning resources will be in demand.
New school learning resources on Return and Earn are in high demand.
The survey found that 93% of schools surveyed are aware of the scheme and 52% have participated, and not just for its fundraising potential. NSW schools are increasingly using Return and Earn as a vehicle for sustainability and recycling education, teaching students that rubbish can be a resource and creating a more sustainable school community.
While schools participate in Return and Earn to fundraise for solar panels, veggie gardens and to support worthwhile community causes, 79% of participating schools state they also join in as a way of engaging students in recycling and litter reduction activities.
These initiatives, which are often student-led, along with the scheme’s environmental outcomes are instrumental to inspiring and demonstrating to young people how individual actions can have a positive collective impact.
Through a successful partnership with AAEE NSW, Return and Earn has developed free curriculum-linked resources for Early Learning through to Stage 5.
Launched late last year, the resources provide teachers with practical ways to engage students on sustainability and recycling and support their school’s participation in the Return and Earn container deposit scheme.
