Onshore gas industry: overview

There are currently four active gas operations in NSW with two of these in the process of being decommissioned. All of these are coal seam gas projects. All gas projects require an Environment Protection licence (EPL):

  • Camden Gas Project (EPL12003): AGL’s gas operation is located at Camden. AGL has stopped producing gas and is the process of decommissioning the remaining gas wells and other surface infrastructure across the project.  
  • Narrabri Gas Project (EPL 20350): Santos’ gas operation is located at Narrabri and has been approved to produce gas subject to meeting various conditions.
  • Kahlua Gas Project(EPL20351): Reactivation of existing pilot wells on Petroleum Exploration Licence 1
  • Brawboy-2 (EPL20352): Brawboy-2 gas well on Petroleum Exploration Licence 452 is in the process of being decommissioned.
