Prescribed wastes for land pollution offence
To better protect people’s health and the environment, the EPA enforces strict rules to deter illegal dumping of waste including asbestos, waste tyres, hazardous waste, and restricted solid waste. This sends a strong signal to polluters that dumping waste is not tolerated in NSW, and those in breach of the law will pay.

Waste levy areas and levy rates
The waste levy applies in the Metropolitan Levy Area (MLA) and Regional Levy Area (RLA), which comprise the Sydney metropolitan area, the Illawarra and Hunter regions, the central and north coast local government areas to the Queensland border, as well as the Blue Mountains, Wingecarribee and Wollondilly local government areas.

Former landfill at St Peters declared significantly contaminated
A former landfill site at St Peters in Sydney’s Inner West, now part of the St Peters Interchange, has been declared significantly contaminated by the NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) in response to ongoing detections of elevated methane and carbon dioxide levels at the site.
